It mattered
I'm sitting at a coffee shop waiting while my car is at the repair shop. I just got it back two days ago because I needed to have some work done. However, there is still a problem.
This seems like an ordinary post, but there is a backstory.
I was late getting an appointment last week. It was my fault that I was late. I could have been on time or even early. However, I was late. In my haste, I drove too fast over a speed bump in my roadster, with its very low clearance. I did it thinking that it was no big deal. That it wouldn't matter. However, it did matter.
I bottomed out and busted the radiator in the car. I also stretched the airbag harness, which needed repair.
I had the car towed to a repair shop, but it took three days for the radiator to come in. I rented a car for the interim.
While the details aren't terribly interesting, there are lessons in this incident: actions matter. Let me personalize it. It's easy to think that I can get away with things: risky things, stupid things, silly things, selfish things. That is, however, not the case. Actions have consequences.
In this case, I'm only losing money and time, and having some anxious thoughts worrying over my car. I hope that I translate this lesson into being thoughtful about actions that could affect relationships or safety.
There's no need to sermonize. It's an easy point to get.
